Andrew S. Walsh is an independent mediator, arbitrator and consultant specializing in property and casualty, workers’ compensation, and accident and health treaty and facultative reinsurance, as well as insured, agent, broker, TPA and MGA dispute resolution.

Andy started his mediation, arbitration and consulting practice in May 2002, and since then has served as a mediator, arbitrator and umpire in many disputes, including those involving reinsurance, MGA issues, and premium collection issues. He has served as an expert witness in several captive insurance-related litigations, and has served as a litigation management consultant in several large reinsurance disputes. He has been a speaker at several reinsurance industry forums.

Andy is certified as an Arbitrator and Umpire and is listed as a Qualified Mediator by ARIAS-US, an insurance and reinsurance dispute resolution society. He did his mediation training at the Program on Negotiation at Harvard Law School, and has both taken and taught several ARIAS-US training courses.

Prior to taking his consulting practice full time in November 2003, Andy served as Senior Vice President and General Counsel of Legion Insurance Company (In Liquidation), joining the company upon its acquisition by Mutual Risk Management Ltd. in 1987. At Legion, he was involved in developing many innovative captive, rent-a-captive and alternative risk transfer products. In his capacity as head of the legal department, he was responsible for managing the dispute resolution function, involving matters with reinsurers, agents, brokers and insureds. He duties also include providing legal counsel on regulatory, employment law, corporate and contract issues.

From 1982 to 1987, Andy served in various capacities in the legal department of Colonial Penn Group, providing regulatory counsel and litigation management services, with emphasis on reinsurance and managing general agency disputes. From 1980 to 1982, he was in private practice, where his practice concentrated on union labor law issues.

Andy is secretary, treasurer and a founding member of the Board of ReMedi. He is also a member of ARIAS·US and is former chair of the Philadelphia Association of Corporate Insurance Counsel. He graduated from the New York University School of Law in 1979 and Union College in 1976. He obtained his Chartered Life Underwriter designation in 1985. He is admitted to practice law in Pennsylvania.
