Insurance and Reinsurance Mediation in the 21st Century

We are pleased to announce the first Spring Conference presented by ReMedi, the Re/Insurance and Mediation Institute. This half day conference will offer presentations by three distinguished panels of accomplished mediators, arbitrators and practitioners in the area of insurance and reinsurance dispute resolution. The session will address the relevance of mediation to insurance and reinsurance disputes, discuss successful mediation strategies and tactics and review key legal issues. A networking session with refreshments will follow the presentations. The program description and registration information follows. Please join us for what we hope will be the first of several ReMedi educational offerings.

*NYS CLE Credit: Four and one-half hours of Continuing Legal Education credits are available to those who attend this conference, all of which are for Skills. This program is structured for both newly-admitted and experienced attorneys. Sign-in and sign-out sheets will verify attendance and will be the basis upon which certificates of attendance will be sent, but certification of completed credit hours to New York CLE Board is the responsibility of each attorney. Financial Hardship Policy Statement: As required by the NYS Continuing Legal Education Board, if a member of the bar of New York would like to attend but finds that he or she would incur a financial hardship by doing so, an application for waiver of the attendance fee may be made to Andrew Walsh, Treasurer, Walsh ADR Services, 113 Cherry Lane, Berwyn, PA 19312. 1:00 PM: Session 1: The Mediator’s Perspective

This session will discuss mediation from the perspective of ReMedi’s experienced mediators. Topics covered will include the functions performed by the mediators, strategies employed by mediators to bring about successful resolutions, procedural options with the mediation context and practical tips for parties to get the most out of mediation.

2:30 PM: Session 2: The User’s Perspective

These three experienced mediation practitioners will discuss mediation strategies and tactics from the client’s perspective. This will include deciding what disputes to mediate, when to mediate, how to select a mediators and how to mediate effectively.

4:00 PM: Session 3: Legal Framework, Enforceability of Mediated Settlements and Confidentiality

This panel of experienced attorneys will discuss the law of mediation. Specific topics will include confidentiality of mediation, potentially applicable privileges and enforceability of mediated settlements.

The conference cost is $100 per attendee. For those registering and joining ReMedi by April 28, 2010 a credit of 10% to be applied to first year ReMedi dues ($1,000 for companies, $750 for law firms and $250 for individuals) will be applied. Companies and firms registering multiple attendees by April 28 will receive the discount for each attendee!
